“We’ve got all this lovely content we’d like to repurpose…”
12 10 2007Our first questions regarding this call all started with the fragment above. And ended there, as we had to stop and correct a major misconception.
This call is not about you repurposing your own content. This is about bringing content in from outside the institution, and using it to revamp one of your modules (and about documenting the process, of course).
Yes, we know that is difficult, and that many institutions may find major internal blocks on this kind of reuse. But a large part of government thinking about content has been based around the idea of it being created once and reused freely. We’d like to identify and remove barriers (all kinds of barriers) so this can happen.
I’d like to discuss how this work may align with the introduction of the new 14-19 Diplimas, the FE sector (supported by JISC and presumable not excluded form this funding) and the NLN materials amongst other ‘free’ resources. There seems to be potential for a productive partnerhsip at local and national levels here….
Hi Terri - the concept of the call is not HE domain specific, but as this is HEFCE/HEFCW capital we are spending we unfortunately need to restrict funding to institutions already funded by these organisations. Though JISC works across HE and FE, our funding is not always as flexible..
We are very keen to see use made of the excellent NLN materials, and look forward to appropriate licensing being negotiated!
